No, not at present. I have not yet found a fixative that does not alter the pastel significantly. I have seen many fixatives advertised out there and have tried many but still do not like the final result achieved.
Pastels do not need a fixative for longevity. Once behind glass they are quite safe. Should they get badly jarred, some particles may break loose and slip down to the bottom of the painting. Framing with a spacer usually takes care of any problems resulting from loose dust by providing a place where they can safely fall. If no spacer is used, they can fall directly on your mats and may require removal. This is where problems can arise so all of my originals are framed using spacers. Pastel on mats can usually be removed with a soft, clean white eraser. Never frame pastels with plexi-glass as cleaning plexi products results in the production of static electricity (even with the use of static-free products) that can easily draw pastel from the painting to the plexi-glass surface. |
